Description
This service is performed during the winter months when plant growth slows or enters dormancy. A specialist visits to reduce watering frequency and volume, halt fertilization, and clear away dead leaves and debris from the soil surface. We inspect the coldest areas of the interior and relocate plants at risk of cold damage to warmer spots.
Dormancy is also an ideal time for pruning; we remove overcrowded, crossing, and diseased branches to conserve nutrients for the coming spring growth. We also lightly loosen the topsoil and apply a small amount of slow-release granular fertilizer, which will gradually release nutrients as temperatures rise in the spring.
This service runs from December through February, with two visits per month. Once spring arrives, we conduct a “spring awakening” inspection to ensure the plants have healthy, plump buds and are successfully transitioning into their active growth phase.
